Best Small/Medium Parrot For Me?

To sum it up, I'm looking for the right bird and I want one of managable size. Nothing to big, but something I can cuddle with that won't break. LOL :30:. So maybe something between a budgie and mini macaw. Something with low - moderate noise. ( I can handle most parrot noise ). I would prefer a bird that likes to cuddle and play, and has less often bites. A bird that will be OK with only 4 hours of play a day. Also color and talking ability has no value to me. Thanks!!!

P.S. Sorry for my repeated questions about this subject, but as I do more research, I am more specific about what I want.

I think a green cheek conure would be the perfect bird for you, or similar birds like the maroon bellied conure or black capped conure. My favorite is the black capped conure, I think they are beautiful

I'm very happy with my GCC; he can be a bit nippy, but he's great fun. I've only ever had Budgies when I was a child, and Aizen now; both are awesome companions.

cockatiels would be great too, they're not as nippy as small conures, BUT they arent quite as playful as the conures. but very cuddly, mellow, easy going birds. they aren't very loud but their flock calls can be a bit shrill.

Ok I thought about this last time you asked . I love learning about all the different species and what their like as peoples pets. I think [what their called is a perfect lory] I wish I had a picture for you [maybe the lory people can help] Ive been around 2 at different times and I wished I had gotten one. Every time I went to see them they were like showing off for me. My lory is a real circus act . talks well ,quiet , puts his tongue in my ear [very affectionate] likes to play. Only downfall is their diet,and is aggressive towards other birds . If you can check them out.

But I'm not sure what you mean by a perfect lory. Is this a species of lory? Or just a nickname for all lories in general?

A perfect Lori is a species, primarily green. They are relatively quite when in comes to lories.

I could see you with a little conure too! They tend to be so snuggly and "rolly polly" cute, like puppies with wings.

I concur with green cheek or cockatiel. I'm not familiar with the lories, but that would be a unique choice.

Keep in mind all birds can be nippy, or prefer not to cuddle. We just speak generally. I am in a similar boat and have decided to go with a Hahns, although they aren't exactly quiet.

I have also seen some very cuddly lovebirds.

awww, come on...get a toucan. they look awesome and are truly interesting birds...there is the cost of course...

I love mini macaws. They ended up being my step up from a cockatiel/budgie and I never regretted it. My noble macaw was a real snuggle bug, and I loved his temperament. He loved people anyone and everyone. He had quite the reputation for being a lover and not a fighter. My Noble macaw could scream but he preferred to talk and he would do this opera type singing which was very cute and always made me giggle. I have learned to imitate his singing and I could get him going. Noble macaws are not available much. I have spent 6 months looking for a breeder with unsucess but an now moving forward to adopting a plucked Noble macaw from a rescue. It took me 6 months to come across him. His information was passed on to me from another form member and I acted on it quickly. I do not expect this noble macaw to be like mine was but he is sweet like noble macaws normally are and I love the species.

I also had an Illiger's macaw. They are one of the most colorful of the mini macaws and it has been told to me that I favored him above all my parrots. Diego was bonded to me to exclusion to everyone else so that created some problems with others in the house. Only I could totally handle this bird and do anything with him. As narcissistic as he was he really wanted to please me. I loved him very much and was devastated when he had his stroke. My Illiger's macaw could be loud with the contact calls but only then. I live in a townhome and none of my neighbors attached or close never complained about my parrots being too loud.

I currently have a Red Fronted macaw. This is the largest parrot I ever owned and this bird can be LOUD. As babies they call out a lot and I read they are loud as babies but mellow with age. I was prepared for Valentino to be very loud and although I to experience the contact call with him he does not scream as much as I expected him to. He has started speaking clearly and will say things now instead of calling out. If I am late for leaving my upstairs office for the say to go downstairs for his momma time he will call out to me. Lately I have heard him call out to me "COME HERE!", "YOUR WEIRD!", "WHAT CHA DOING?" and once he said "GROSS PARROT!" to me. Sometimes I never know what is going to come out of that beak. I have started watching R rated movies on the TV in bedroom instead of downstairs where he can watch and hear them.

kenzi if this is going to be your first parrot and you want cuddly less loud parrot a hand raised cockatiel is a wonderful first choice in my mind. I LOVED Locksley and he had some weird affection needs. I use to have to hold him on my chest and have one hand over his back while I use the other hand to rub the bald spot under his crest. He would squint his eyes in nirvana and make a comfort noise. I have to admit he has the most beautiful song for a cockatiel because normally cockatiel noises are too shrill for me but I loved to listen to Locksley sing.

Bigger up from a cockatiel would be a conure or mini macaw. Although Blue Crown Conures can be loud once they learn human speech the screaming they would normally do would be talking loud. I was in the process of looking into a BCC as my second parrot to make a flock with Valentino. If you go mini macaw a well raised, disciplined Hahn's macaw would be a good choice also. I do not know how loud they are but I would think it would be like to a Noble macaw.

Cockatiel would be easy to raise and love and the mini macaw or conure will take more training with boundary teachings but they LOVE to learn tricks.
