Hey everyone! I haven't been in here since my dilemma with Achilles, but we got that all straightened out thanks to you all!!
So I am here to share a story with you today. I'll start off with tell you all that my husband and I just moved so we have no idea where anything is at in this new town. Including pet stores, the nearest petsmart is about 30 minutes away in the town we used to live in. And seeming that we don't want to drive 30 minutes for Neutraberries we looked for a local pet store. And while we were out exploring today we decided that we would finally stop in since we were close. So we pull up and it looks decent from the outside and there are no negative thoughts at this point. Once you walk in all you can hear is the overly loud door buzzer going off, along with all the fish tanks bubbling. Which it's a pet shop that's to be expected.
So the women that owns the place ( I am just assuming this) asks if "we need anything" and to which I reply "parrot stuff". She then says nothing only points her finger in the direction. Now I thought it was slightly rude in the manner she did it, but I don't like to judge anyone to quickly. So my husband and I start looking around, and they don't have very much of a avian selection to chose from. Or any type of animal selection for that matter. So at that point we knew we would have to make that 30 minute drive to get our babies there treats.
But we continue to look around the store just to check it out anyways. Which I was really trying to find the birdies cause I heard them just chatting away, and wanted to see. As we are walking around we come across a small room with all the animals in cages. Like mice, hamsters, lizards etc.. And three cages of birds. So I ask the lady if we are allowed to go in and look at the animals and she tells us yes. So we go in and I immediately go to where the birds are. Because a sweet handsome african grey caught my attention.
Now this is where your blood will start to boil. This little beauty's living conditions where terrible!!! He was shoved into a tiny little cage that was probably meant for little parakeets. Which where in the cage next to him. Now not only was the cage tiny but it was also dirty, actually it was filthy. Then because all these red flags are going off I look into this little guys food dish to see what he has been eating. Now I don't know very much about a Greys diet but I am sure it's pretty similar to what my Eclectus's diet is. And sunflower seeds is not a proper meal for breakfast. So by now I am a little disturbed, and want to get this little fellow out of this place so he can have proper care that he deserves. Now I have been so distracted by the living conditions and the appearance of this little fellow. I failed to notice the tiny sign on the side of his cage. Which read "My name is Max I am 20 and I am not for sale." So by now my heart break in half that I am not able to help poor little Max because he is not for sale. So I try to distract my self by looking at the finches (that have overgrown nails that are curling up into their skin) and the other animals which are in this room. As I am walking around this room little Max is following my every move just begging for attention, and once my husband and I leave the room he lets out a loud screech. Then we left with out saying anything to the woman.
Soooo all day Mr. Max has been haunting me. I just wish there is something I could do for him. I don't know if any of you have any connections or know anyone that could maybe check out this place and have Max and the other animals there rescued? Or I don't know if any of you live in the area and could try I get him yourselves and convince her to sell and maybe you could give Max a better life. I would confront this woman myself but I am not one to attack with out being attacked first lol. So basically I don't have enough guts and don't know what to really do in a situation like this.
And it's located in Calcutta Ohio.
For anyone that wants to have at it!
