African Grey-Yasef
Good morning from Istanbul.

Yasef reacted so badly to the new perch. For the first time ever landed on the bottom grill and did not want to come up until I removed the new perch.

Now I put the perch near by outside the cage just to make him familiar with it.

Should I just go ahead and put it back into the cage or wait for a while?

What is your experience on that?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
You might try leaving it at a distance but within sight for a while, then move it a bit closer to see his reaction. If this is not a problem, try attaching it to the outside of the cage where he can get a better look and perhaps get closer but still "escape." If successful, you might try placing it inside in a normal position. Another alternative, if he is hand-tame, would be to hold the perch in one hand, Yasef in another, and see if he will step on it.

Like all parrots, Greys are very observant of their environment, but more skittish than most, in my experience. It is possible he will never accept that perch, and it is not worth the stress!!

Good luck!!
