Cape Parrot Breeder

Good morning-

My husband and I have been researching Cape Parrots for several months now and we are really wanting to add one to our flock. The problem? I have had almost zero response from breeders that I have reached out to

Im not sure what the issue is, I know they are rare birds, but this seems out of sorts.

We are in the Detroit area, can anyone offer any suggestions?

Those are hard to come by. That's all I can tell you. There weren't all that many imported into the states, and they can be hard to find.

I know they are hard to get

I have been in contact with Scott at Old World Aviaries and unfortunately he doesnt have any right now.

I guess it will just be a waiting game and see what comes up.

Yeah. Contact all the breeders. Get your name on the list.

Not much more you can do.

@Ravensgryf (Julie) may know where to get one. She is into the rarer Poi's and knows a lot about them.

Featherlust Farm in CT bred Cape Parrots in 2007, not sure if they still do, but worth checking. Their website appears to be screwed up, but I have their email address (PM me if you want it) and you can do a web search for their phone number.

Raven my Pionus' breeder specializes in Capes (Brown Necked). Last I talked to her, she even sells them for a bit less than most. She is an experienced, reputable, quality breeder. I'll PM you with details.

I'd love one too, but no more birds for me for the foreseen future!

Also, Omar's Exotic Birds here in CA, which is one of the most responsible stores I know of (owner is either a breeder or knows a reputable source) they regularly have Cape chicks in their stores (seasonally). I'll give you info.
