Finley our 4 month old Nanday Conure seems to be switching positions a lot in his cage at night. I know this for sure because we have a pet cam (with the record light turned off) in his cage to keep an eye on his sleeping pattern. He's in his own room in a sleep cage and cover far away from any noise that could wake him up accept for the occasional person walking past the door here and there. He gets 13 hours of darkness, as well. When we first got him he didn't move around when sleeping much but this last week he has started to walk around at all hours of the night going from this perch to that perch, sleeping for a bit but then moving again 30 mins later. I'm wondering if that is normal or not. He doesn't poop in his sleep cage and he doesn't eat in there until morning (we put a small dish of food in there). Ollie my other bird gets into his position and stays there all night and it would be rare for him to move even once. It's weird because nothing has changed in his cage and his behavior during the day hasn't changed either. Thoughs?

I haven't ever stuck a camera in his cage to find out more, but I hear Kiwi shift in his cage at night sometimes. I think it's just a re-adjusting to a more comfy position, just like we do when we roll over. He also "ruffles" his feathers every time the heater kicks in during the winter, which is very very cute to hear:p I think just like with people, parrots probably have individuals who barely budge in their sleep and others who are moving all over the place while sleeping.

I'd say if Finely isn't excessively cranky or napping too much during the day, he's probably just a more active sleeper as an individual.

The Rickeybird, 38-year-old Patagonian Conure
Patagonian Conures are partially nocturnal... flying and foraging at nocturnally, so the Rickeybird fusses around a lot at night, catching afternoon-long naps to make up. I just finished Googling Nandays, to see if maybe they were also noctu) are rnal, but apparently they are not. Soooooooooooo... I like the advice you're already getting. Probably nothing at all to worry about. As the self-annointed Queen of Paranoia, though, I might just make sure no pests (bugs?) are getting at him. I once had a horrific issue with ROACHES in a new house... they would get at his food at night. It was really hard to get rid of them, but we did!
