Heyo, don't know what anyone else out there thinks, and it's not like i'm the most senior member around here, but I feel like a lot of the questions that arise on the forum, especially in the conure section (where i spend most of my time), there is just barrages of people asking the same questions over and over and over again. I wonder if a "New Birds" section could be helpful for new owners. I know that each species is different, but a lot of the basic questions are fairly similar. What do ya'll think?

The thing with that is as a new thread gets posted, it goes downwards and goes pages after pages. The best thing to do is do a search within the forum. Most of the answers can be found there!

I think this idea has merit, but I suggest all of them be stickies and locked. Many people may not use the search feature and prevent future new members from asking the same questions and save much needed space in the long run. This section could be set up like an owners manual. I think if we cover the basics like diet, aggression, sleep, bathing, toys, perches, quarantine and the need for vet care we would be good.

It sounds great in principle, but it would amount to a general wiki on each and every species of bird. I fear this would quickly become much more unwieldy than we might think. Not only that, but do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a fair consensus on a site like this one? The workload would be massive!

I think we have a pretty good FAQ and considering we're set up for discussion rather than etching any rules in concrete, we do rather well as we are. Please remember there are many folk here from many backgrounds. All have different opinions and many are very certain of their knowledge, despite the vast differences. This is what forums are all about: the sharing of ideas. As soon as we start codifying what's 'right' and 'wrong', we're setting ourselves up as an authority. I don't think a single one of us is really qualified to do that.

Of course, if any member feels up to trawling through the archives and collating all the info that's gone before under headings, they're more than welcome to do it. Well, that is, *I* reckon they're more than welcome. Since I'm not the forum owner, it's not my business to offer jobs... :D :D :D

Yeah I think that point if very valid. Compared to other forums (not just parrot related), people here are so much kinder, especially when it comes to posting in the right places or not using the search feature :p it was just a though but I'd say you guys are right. It would be difficult, and with all the different opinions surrounding birds, there really isn't just one answer.
