Lala is a 4+/- year old Goffin's Cockatoo rescued from the shelter October 13th 2017. Beautiful, spunky and loves love! 💘
The hubs and I went to the local pet supply store and they have 15+ birds. They said people being them there to surrender their birds when they they start plucking and can't get them to stop or just don't want them anymore 😢. She must breed them because she has "these are breeder birds and NOT for sale" signs up.

***I HAVE TO EXPRESS MY ANGER AT THIS STORE***

Each bird was paired with another of the same breed except a B&G Macaw, two Severe Macaws, several Senegals, two sets of Umbrella Cockatoos, an Electus (beautiful creature but I think he's permanently naked except his wings and head. Soooo gorgeous! His purple plumage is so pretty!!) a bird I couldn't identify honestly, and another green Electus and another odd one I've never heard of before. The last one was the roughest looking bird.... Every single birds feathers were so ratty looking. I understand it's mating season but these birds...every one of them looked...rough. I remember being in this store 3 years ago and there was not near that many birds. All had access to food and water, sesperate cages per pair...one or two nice perches, toys, and nesting boxes. Space? Meh? We both agreed they provably never get out of the cage love time. But that's an assumption and we could be wrong. The Severes were so cute but to me...sad because every time we went near them they would kind of...attacked each other so when we realized that we avoided them. We tried to talk and engage with the rest of the birds to entertain them and because we felt bad and they seemed to lap up the attention! Then I paid attention to the B&G...Guys...his beak is INSANELY long!!! Like really really long. I took a photo. We noticed that and left. We didn't buy anything either...She said that she's had it done before referring his beak but she's just going to to see if he does it naturally because it stresses him. IT SOUNDS LIKE NEGLECT TO ME but am I totally misreading it all?

Thanks for listening to my rant guys.

Each State has its own Laws as to what is Animal Cruelty. In most States, it comes down to Local Law. You will need to determine how this is handled with your Local Law Enforcement.

It sounds like that Store has become a 'breeder' (note the lower case 'b') and fills Store space with the mating pairs or waiting for a mate. Just based on past knowledge, I would guess that most of those Parrots had been in better condition when they had been dropped-off.

The difficulty with Animal Protection Organizations is that they are pretty good at defining 'Cruelty' with 'common' Animals and not Exotics, which Parrots fall under. As a result, they have to depend on a Third Party Expert to define the conditions /health status of the Parrots. Since that commonly ends-up being a local Vet and unless the Vet is an Avian Specialist, the Court will be reluctant to issue a Warrant.

You are left with Better Business (BBB) and Social Media. There are real concerns when you raise this type of issue on Social Media, because unless you have well documented their Cruelty, you open yourself to legal action.

So, start with your local law enforcement!

The B&G's bill is clearly overly long.
