I have two white bellied caiques who are sisters and I am really wanting to buy (or make) them a new playstand that they will love. I have a limit of $200.
I had a large Java tree that had thick branches that were spaced far apart and they did not like it at all since they couldn't grip very well. Sold that. I had a PVC stand that I won, but they didn't like that either and it was a pain to clean underneath. Sold that.
So now, they have a wooden pine playstand I built myself. They actually stay on this one, but they don't play on it. I think they like it because it is up high. Its not hard to clean, but I do wish it had a removable tray. They usually just sit on it and eat. Click below to view it.
I just wish they had something that they would like to play on. They love wrestling on the floor, which is why their current playstand has a large flat bottom, but no matter how hard I try to keep it clean, it usually has poop on the floor so they won't play down there. They also love to hang upside down and play, but the playstand I built seems to not allow that since its too small.
I think I want a playstand that:
-Easy to clean- removable tray. Seed catchers?
-Lots of ways to attach toys and ropes. Their current playstand has lots of hooks, but they are in an awkward place and they just don't play with them.
-Removable bowls that are easy to clean. Stainless steel. The food bowl on their current playstand is hard to clean and too small.
-Big! The bigger the better. I have a pretty large place to put it in my living room.
My ideas:
-A new/used cage with a playtop. They have one at my parent's house when I go and visit and they love playing on the top of it.
-Metal playstand. I like how these look, but I have heard some negative reviews.
-Build a new one, but I'm in an apartment and I only have a drill. I'm not too good with tools and I'm not sure how I would design it better.
-Get a java tree with a platform, but these seem too expensive: Bird Cage, Java Wood Perch, Avian Supplies, Pluck No More, Bird Food
-Regular java tree that is more their size. Seem to expensive, though.
Any thoughts? Anyone with caiques that like their playstands?
