Oh, I'm so, so sorry...There's nothing I can say that will make this situation any better, except that you've done everything you can for her and I'm certain she knows that...You're right, with that much weight-loss and if the tumor is highly-vascularized, she probably would not survive the surgery...and even if she did, the recovery from that surgery would be long and brutal...

As long as she's comfortable just give her as much love and cuddles as you can...

Oh I am so sorry to read this!! I agree with letting her be comfortable with you.. it's good to know what's going on, but it's so hard when nothing can be done. All my love to you.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I am so sorry, hugs and tears for you and Kiki. May you all be comforted by quality time with Kiki, absent discomfort.

Forgive me for asking, but has the specialist double-checked the diagnosis to ensure it is not a "false positive" review; ie board certified radiologist to confirm?

Thanks. It means a lot to talk to other people who love birds. Very much appreciated.

This was one of the top avian radiologists specialized in birds in the country. He said the diagnosis was very clear. Unfortunately I have no reasons to doubt him.

This was at the University faculty veterinarian medicine (Bird department) and there were a number of students in the room.
I'm glad that there are people well-trained as avian vets. We don't have (certified) avian vets in every city here.

The last few months have been devastating for parrots and parronts alike. This is making me more depressed than I already am :( I am so so so sorry to hear about your beautiful Kiki. I pray she doesn't suffer as tears roll freely down my cheek.

I wanted to sensitively broach the subject of diagnosis with something this dire. Many a parrot has been misdiagnosed in either direction, and second opinion or deeper inquiry has proved invaluable. It is sadly apparent in Kiki's case the validity is high. I know you and Kiki's extended family will envelope her with love and compassion.

Not fair, not fair, too many of our precious community flock being lost lately! But you’ve made the right choice to keep her with you, among the ones she loves and trusts. My heart goes out to you!

I have tears in my eyes right now. We had to take the most difficult decision yesterday evening. Sweet sweet beautiful Kiki...

Kiki hardly ate the past few days. When I came home from work at 6pm (my wife and son had been with her all day), she accepted some breadcrumbs. She took a few bites just to please me, and then went to sleep.

Fifteen minutes later she fell off her perch. I took her on my lap and she was grateful and rested a bit. At one point we saw she was in agony, and we thought this was the end. But It wasn't. I could see she was suffering. I couldn't let her go through the night like this.

I had too take the most difficult decision and we went to a vet. Even at the vet she kept trusting me and cuddled in her way to say goodbye.

We have burried her in our garden in a nice place where flowers grow in spring and summer.

She was a joy in our life. We will remember all the beatiful moments we had with her.

I have spent today cleaning and disassembling her cage. I can't watch an empty cage.

Thanks for all your kind words. I haven't reacted or posted a lot on this forum, but I have read The majority of the posts in the last 2 years. Every evening I read all new posts of the day.

In the bereavement section I will post some beautiful pictures and moments we had with her. That is the way we will remember her.

Tears overhere as well.

Heel veel sterkte gewenst de komende tijd - it is not easy to lose a feathered member of the family.
