Budgie poo has changed

Hi, we have had our budgie for 6 months, he is approx 8 months. His poo has always been small round black and white pellets but for the last few days they have been longer, wetter and much lighter in colour - sorry! My daughter gave him a whole sprig of millet which he finished off quickly and I thought his upset tummy might be due to that but he's had it like this for 3 days now. Nothing has changed in his environment or normal food, he is the only bird in our house, can anyone give me any suggestions of what might be wrong and if I should be concerned. Thanks.

I should also have said he is eating and drinking as normal, jumping around his cage and singing away, it's just his poop that has changed and I don't know why!

This is not normal. The budgie poop should not look like this.

I have to suggest going to an avain vet specialist a d having a gram stain, and culture done. Even though your bird is eating and acting normal, birds hide being sick, they hide it very well.

You can try getting probiotics for birds and sprinkle over the food as directed. Do not add it to the birds water. Or you see if your budgie is willing to eat live culture yogurt, just a little. Remove after a few minutes if he won't as it spoils quickly.

Never add anything to a birds water, if you are putting vitamins in the birds water stop immediately. Even if though the sell them they are bad, the water quickly rotts and makes a bird sick.

Sorry but that's definitely not normal poop. It could be bacteria infection, yeast infection, or virus.... My budgies eat veggies, millit, seed, pellets, their poop always looks normal the dark ring with the white spot in the middle...

Great! I've been worrying. Keep us updated. And I hope for a quick recovery!

He's been given 7 days of baytril antibiotic and vet is testing a fecal sample, he seems a bit underweight but he's still really chirpy! Don't think either of us enjoyed the first dose of antibiotics, he's been giving me the evil eye! Thanks for your advice.

How's your budgie doing???
I'm hoping a full recovery ?

Hi, Yes!! He is all back to normal, we are so relieved! He was funny the first couple of days he was trying to bite the syringe then after that he was keeping his break tight shut! Seems to have forgiven me for being the one who gave him the medicine anyway and he's as happy as can be, thanks for all your advice!
