As long as you're getting the bird for the right reasons, you can provide daily socialization and interaction, LOTS of out-of-cage time, afford vet bills and a quality diet, and can provide a large cage with lots of chewing and mental stimulation toys (and replace them when they are destroyed). Make sure you do lots of research on this species, and try to interact with them before bringing one home.
As long as you're dedicated to this bird and want to give him/her the best life possible, I say go for it! :D
I've only had a Parakeet in the past and have had my Cockatiel for less than a year, and I brought home an Amazon about a month ago. Just know what you're getting into.
