I agree with KiwiBird. I think your birds know when somethings not right, and they may feel cautious about it. Perhaps if you initiated a cuddle when you are feeling down, you might get a different reaction.
I am "lucky" in that three of mine are in tune with me all the time. Just last week, when Loki flew off, and I was a panic stricken mess, Wingnut was on super high alert. Then when we found her and got her back, I was flooded with relief, and all he wanted to do was be close to me.
