Hey all, Joey our 5 month old Brown headed parrot has been doing great with us since we got him 3 months ago. He's eating everything we give him..his weight has been consistently 134g, and he's talking tons
Now I work Mon-Fri 8-4. My wife is at home most of the time so Joey has become accustomed to someone being around 24/7. If he cannot see someone, he will screech nonstop. 80% of the time, he is out of his cage. We live in an apartment, so we must be careful with the noise level. So once he gets extremely vocal and starts calling over and over, we place him in his cage with a firm NO and roll the cage into the den. (neighbors cannot hear him in there). He will call for about 20 minutes and soon give up. Once he's quiet, we open the door to the room and greet him with a treat and let him know that he's a good boy as we take him out of his cage.
We've been doing this for over a month with no success! It doesn't seem to be working... There are times where we have to simulate leaving the apartment so that he can relax and quiet down. (He stops calling when he hears the "beep beep beep" tone from our alarm system... he also uses this to greet us lol)
I've also made a 5x5 net with supplies from Home Depot and interlaced toys within it to keep him busy...but he just finds his way around everything to get to us. He's got tons of toys which we circulate within his cage aswell...
Other than the calling issue, and wanting to be with us 100% of the time, he is great!
Any advice? Am i missing something?
Thanks all,
Boman
