RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
Just got the results back on Constantine. Here I always thought my little Con was a boy but really he's a she! I'm stunned to say the least. I felt that her personality always leaned towards the male side but I guess I was judging her by human standards. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Also, what can I expect from having a female? I'd like some first hand advice.
Thanks!

Everyone but me thought my Nanday was a boy, including the vet. I saw her as female because she was always nagging at her toys, and I guess I saw that as a womanly trait, lol! When the vet came out with the results, he said to me, "You're not going to believe it, but this little guy is a girl." I said, no, actually, I do believe it.

My BC conure seemed obvious when we compared her to her brother from a previous clutch at the breeder's house. Her brother was bigger than she was and had great big feet and a great big head. Neither of us was surprised when she came back as female.

I haven't had a male conure, but I love/loved my females. My understanding is that there isn't a lot of difference in their personalities.

What little I can find on the internet about female conures is that apparently they're supposed to be more cuddly and quieter. The only trait Con has is she's quiet. She doesn't like to cuddle and I'm worried about the possible eggs and egg binding that might occur. That's why I was hoping to have a male but oh well. I'm hoping that since Con is a girl, she'll be more receptive to allowing another conure added to our flock. I really want a green cheek lol Oh and Roxy, thanks for always having such awesome advice and posts :)

I thought my Rio was a boy, very cuddly velcro bird, but he turned out to be a girl! I thought Kai was a girl cuz she was such a B***H, but alas, she was a boy! Can't believe I was wrong about both of them!

my female finch (bonie) is almost twice the size of her mate (clide/bumble) for a while i thought she was a male, birds can be so tricky sometimes:rolleyes:!

Rowdy is quite loud and not cuddly. My BC was cuddly though. So as far as that goes with male/female, maybe not quite true:) They both loved to kiss though.

Rowdy has never laid an egg and she is almost 12. Bri never laid one either, though I lost her at only 10.5 years old. I don't think conures are real prone to egg laying. Although I'm wondering now that there is a male amazon in the house if I will find an egg one day. I don't think I need that DNA test for Pete after all. I think he has, umm, proved his maleness in the last few days.

The new female Grey is 21 and has only laid one egg in her life (so far).

Just provide your birds, especially the females, with a cuttle bone and they will probably be fine as far as calcium goes. Remember they need sunlight to process calcium so mudt get out of doors time or have a full spectrum light.

Eggs are probably more a concern for cockatiel owners. Any female bird can lay an egg, but they probably won't go nuts about it.

If you live with them long enough, you'll be able to tell if they are male or female once they become sexually mature. But, it can take a few years before they give you clues. Both my conures did eventually do female things when they became hormonal. But, I wanted to know when they were babies and had the DNA tests done.

You might guess by Merlin's name her original owners first thought she was male until the DNA test was done, lol!

I just ordered a DNA test for Pete because he was "unknown", but I think he's make it pretty clear he is a boy recently. I probably don't need to do it.

Life is not a sanjoseasianescorts trap set for us by God so that he sanjoseasianescorts Life is not a spelling puzzle, where no matter how many words youve gotten right, you're disqualified if you make one mistake. Life is sanjoseasianescorts more like a baseball season, where even the best sanjoseasianescorts team loses one third of its games and even the worst team has its days of brilliance. Our goal is to win more games than we lose.

You are posting all over this forum a bunch of weird stuff that isn't helpful to anyone. We really don't need or want any trolls here.
