I personally think the whole gender preference is dependant on the birds experience as well as the people. I have a Pionus that is absolutely enamored by any male that comes into my house who has very blonde hair..... The pionus does not usually get along with my female friends and will warn them off with a glare and feather flares while then turning around and begging to be petted by most of my guy friends (and the majority have light blonde hair - i think he just likes the color). On that note, I'm female and he loves me to pieces, preening my hair and cuddling for hours. I think his preferences are because he does not like timid ppl, most woman i have over (sorry girls) are very shy on their approach to him, and more nervous about being bitten! But the pionus loves me and loves my fiance, and meticulously preens my fiance's beard.
