I've had several of my furred and feathered friends die in my arms. Every single one of those moments is seared into my memory forever. While it may be terribly difficult for us, it is enormously comforting for them, knowing their last moments were in the arms of those they loved, and who loved them in return.
It is a terrible sacrifice, but one that is so meaningful to them, so it's a cross we must bear at their passing, and take heart that our own sacrifice was so comforting to them.
