:pMy parrot will arrive at my home next week.
I have prepared the perch, cage, chewing toy and food for it.

It's my first time to get along with the parrot, so I have several questions:
1.when the parrot keeps moving up and down, what's the best way to let it calm down?
2.Could you give me the reference that where I can buy the parrots' favorite devices, for example, toy, perch, cage. I mean what material of parrots' favorite devices parrots would like.
3.Anything I have to add to?

Any reply would be appreciated.
Please help me~

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, thanks for joining! You must be excited to receive your first parrot! It is absolutely natural to have apprehension and many questions.

First, I'd hope the selling party will give you basic information. That is not always the case, particularly if the bird is shipped from a distant breeder. To better target our discussions, please state the species of the bird!

It is most important to have a safe home upon arrival. Cages, toys, and food can be purchased locally, depending on where you live, in specialty or large "chain" stores. Virtually everything is available on-line, but you'll want to see and touch items at first. The best and most expensive cage material is stainless steel, though most are iron coated with a durable lead-free paint. Preferred toys are wood, plastic, paper (for some birds) and the hardware ought be stainless as well. Various seeds, pellets and treats are available, but the best base diet is rich in veggies and fruits.

Bobbing up and down has many meanings, such as a call for attention, pleasure, excitement, but rarely negative. Specific species have head "crests" that raise and lower, and many have dilations of eye pupils that are significant.

I think it sounds like you are trying to make sure your parrot feels at home and that is a good thing. But don't leave out.

Things that need to be removed from your home to assure the safety of your parrot.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
It helps to know what kind of parrot you are bringing home. Different parrots have different behavior patterns...

If you could tell us the species of parrot you are bringing home it may help us give you better advice. There's a huge difference in what you'll need to get in terms of bringing a macaw versus a budgie or finch home. So, what kind of bird are you getting?

Also, I saw you mentioned you have a perch. That's great, but most birds will need a huge cage and a good amount of perches to hang out on. We can point you in the right direction based on species and where you live. Amazon is a good source for lots of things I get for my birds, as well as Chewy.com, where I get my good quality bird foods.

Hello, and welcome to the Parrot Forums family!

There's been some great advice given already, though as has been said, more specific advice could be given once we know the species of your new bird.

Just to add to the great links Scott has provided, here is another good one for a beginner: http://www.parrotforums.com/eclectus/61363-new-parrot-basics.html Lots of info and links jam-packed into one thread.
