Is this lamp bad for my birds?

Hey there, my brother has this lamp that he bought at Wal-mart and the part that covers the bulb is made of plastic(very cheap lamp, 5$) Anyway it's starting to smell when he turns it on from the heat on the plastic and i'm wondering if this is dangerous to my birds. Please help, thanks

Ditto Spiritbird, melting plastic is not something any living creature should inhale. I'd ditch it stat.
