Kayla my 2nd blue fronted amazon who I brought home about two months ago has now started doing this crouching/laying thing on the perch I keep in my room to keep one of my birds occupied while I'm working from home. This is now day two of this odd behaviour.
Kayla crouching
She tends to be the quieter one and Howie my first parrot who I had for 5 years now will get jealous of her if they are left in the same room for too long and constantly squawk until they're separated(we tried moving their cages to the same room to see if that'll improve their relationship) and chase and bully her if they're both out of their cages unless Kayla gives him some attention and prunes his feathers and vice versa.
She's already been vet checked when I first got her and was okay though imo she looked like she was a bit malnourished and her plumage was poor. Maybe she was in the early stages of plucking while new feathers were coming in after her original owner died and was being cared for by the husband who was up in his years? While Howie may be a bully it seems him and the new home has been doing wonders for her since she looks much healthier compared to two months ago.
Does this crouching/laying down on her perch appear to be a normal thing? When I first spotted her doing this yesterday I called out to her and tried to get her attention to she if she wanted to play but she didn't budge and was content like this until I thought maybe she was crouching down to feel the fan blowing on her more since the a/c is broken. I then proceeded to take her to the shower to let her have a bird bath and afterwards she was much chipper and was normal for the rest of the day.
But now Kayla has gone back to the weird behaviour several times today(even sleeping like this for awhile) even after giving her a bird bath so I don't think it's the heat. Thoughts?
