Fecal gram stains tell a lot more with birds than we may think. You would expect that it would be bloodwork, but the blood work really only shows any genetic issues, pre-existing conditions or an acute or pro-longed issue. If your fid has a cold or bacterial infection its not likely going to show up in the bloodwork until its too late. But if a stool test (gram stain) is done, it will.

They can diagnose bacterial infections and even nutritional deficiencies via gram stain. Its why avian vets recommend a gram stain every year but not necessarily blood work.

Good to know; it was done, and I think there are definitely some things that can better be detected by one vs the other.
Unfortunately though, were still at a loss for what hes doing. It seems to have improved a bit, but he still does it.
The vet told me that I should let out my stress because everything looks great, but still strange.
