Macaw help needed

I got a blue macaw I may, from an unhealthy situation. We can't touch it(?) Not sure of the sex. And he lunges at us when we get near him. We were told he was 4-6 yrs old . Any suggestions?

One of the very first things I did with my Mac to get him interacting with me was to open his cage and sit by it ignoring him and eating popcorn. He quickly decided that I may not be so bad after all.
