New to Ringnecks

hi people. iam from halifax , west yorkshire, couple week ago got our first bird , he only six month old we was told, he as a ring round leg which is red and as a number 12 stamped on as well as some more letters.
Wanting to no as we thinking getting a mate for him, could they be kept in same sexs or it better male and female.
he is still shy but as now started eating from me fingers in the cage.
Any info welcome

Daz, I suspect you'll already know he's a 2012 bird as Red and 12 rings are this years...

In regards to being a "him" you'll not know for another year or so unless he's been DNAd.

With a partner bird, I think it depends what you want?
If you are after a pet who talks then ill advise not to go for a second bird yet...
Let him/her mature and settle and then add another.
