- Gcc- Conlan... Sun Conure- Mouse...Jenday- Kellan... RLA- Happy...B&G Macaw- Rhage
In my home my birds never get close. None of flock are compatible.
Conlan, my 3yr old, Gcc, is a diva. She dislikes toys, most touch, play. But she doesn't seem to dislike my Sun Conure, who isn't a 'bird'.
Mouse, almost 3 year old, Sun Conure, has little confidence, isn't sure how to be a bird. She isn't sure of how to act around other birds. But will eat seeds from my hand with Conlan if she's in my arm. Conlan ignores her, which seems OK with Mouse. But Mouse had been around Conlan since she was a baby. But any quick movements can set her into fight it flight, though she's never been aggressive.
Mira, 2 year old, ysgcc. She's been known to be a bully with others and often fluffs up and struts when another bird gets close. Lived with another bird prior to his passing.
Kellan, 2 year old Jenday. Kellan is so high strung and protective of me for me to trust he wouldn't get upset, and with him being the bigger of my Conures, I don't trust him.
Rhage, almost 1 year old, B&G Macaw. His size alone means he isn't allowed near the small birds. He's even in a different room with my RLA.
Happy, 50+ year old, RLA. She was alone her whole life. Has arthritis, is at least 60% blind from cataracts, has fatty liver disease. So as a rule to keep her and my other birds safe she stays alone during playtime.
EVERYONE gets alone time with me each day, but no one gets out at the same time. All are clipped.
I've been told this isn't a good thing. I've been told they should be allowed to greet and establish a pecking order. That is unnatural for them not to bond.
I'd LOVE nothing more than to have my small birds out at the same time on their own play areas but I don't want any accidents.
Everyone is familiar with time outs, steps up well and generally listens.
Am I in the wrong? Should I start trying to see if they get along?
I tried introducing Mouse and Kellan when Kellan came home after weaning... She was fine but when she saw the 'shiney ring' on his foot and tried to grab it... Kellan wasn't too happy and yelled, and Mouse wouldn't go near him again ROFL.
Conlan and Kellan don't seem to mind if other birds are around, as long as they don't climb on the cage. Mouse doesn't care but doesn't seem like she knows HOW to respond. Mira just seems like she'd be a snot.
Does anyone else have multiple birds that never interact? Or am I just a paranoid parent??
