It would be so good if you could all keep us in your prayers tonight. There are fires burning all over the State and most of them are out of control. I'm not in an immediate fire area, but I have family members who are and who have already been evacuated. This is the worst fire season we've had in over a decade and the bush is just choked with dry fuel and busting to burn!
Hundreds of homes are expected to be lost tonight and the weather patterns are working up to a massive conflagration that should peak tomorrow. Record heat and gusting winds aren't helping! If only it would rain!!!
Spare a thought, too, for our native wildlife. One of the bad fires is in the Port Stephens area, which happens to contain the largest population of koalas in NSW. Koalas simply can't run away, so this population is in terrible danger!
My niece lives close to one of the smaller grass fires. She's safe so long as the wind doesn't change. If it does, she has three horses and no float to load them on - and even if she did, there's nowhere to put them except, maybe, in my backyard.
The last time we had fires like this was in 1994 and the *whole* countryside for miles around was left blackened and smouldering for months. It's so frightening and disheartening for those who lose homes, but we're all praying that no lives will be lost in the days to come.
Thanks, everyone!
Trish
