I suspect you'll get either a squawk of astonishment, they think it's bedtime, or absolutely no reaction at all. Saying that they may also spawn 6 heads and finally impart the eldritch truth unto us
I have watched a total eclipse before and if my memory serves me right the silence was almost scary. All the wild birds stopped singing, presumably they grabbed an extra nap. Then once it passed they all kicked off again. Quite a strange experience.
It got dark-ish... we had an 80% eclipse... and yes, it got eerily quiet. The Rb and I were inside with his window raised. The silence and shade put him in the mood for a nap...
That was at about 2:30 EST (the maximum eclipse here).
By about 3, he was successfully revived by a gigantic green chile.
I took no chances. I bought Salty a pair of parrot sized sunglasses.

Joking, of course. Geri did have him out in his Pak o bird, he pretty much ignored the eclipse. Only 71% here in NY, but man people went a little nuts. I saw people using welders masks!
It was only 58% here, so my birds didn't have much of a reaction to it. It didn't get darker, or at least not by much. I have to wait until 2024 for a total, then I'll see about my birds reactions.
