Pumpkins are good for birds, right? And can they safely chew on the stem?

I want to put a pumpkin in Puck's cage, but he doesn't go on the floor of his cage, so I need to mount it somehow. Any ideas? I was thinking of hollowing it out and making it into an edible playhouse for him.

He's sitting on top of one right now, and looking quite happy with himself.

It is a very cute sight :43: I also was excited to find out if Puck were a Black Head or a White Belly. It would be very cute to make a pumpkin hut and see Puck climb in LOL

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
Yes, they are safe! In fact, I try and theme my birds cages to the time of year. I have a small pumpkin on the floor of Kiwis cage. She doesn't move around her cage, but I always live in hope that I can entice her to crawl around a bit!

I think Puck would have a field day if you turned it into a playhouse! I'm just imagining the mess that would make.... lol. He would definately need a bath when he's done playing or else you will have a pumpkin scented bird!

Thanks everyone! We are going to a pumpkin carving party this weekend. I plan to make him a pumpkin hut!

suebee - the small pumpkin is a good idea!

crazy4birds - He always smells like whatever he's been eating. It stays on his breath for several hours!

I split a little pumpkin (that's a hard task! Those things are TOUGH!) between Bleu and Lucy. Bleu made short work of it and picked out all the seeds haha Lucy sat ontop of it and rocked it back and forth lol
