We have had our GCC for about a month. He was adopted from his original owner and hes about 2 1/2 to 3 years old. For the most part he is coming along well. He was a bad biter but is calming down with that.
The big problem is he is becoming clingy as in unhealthily clingy. I know these are social flock animals and were with him in the morning and evening and he gets at least 2-4 hours out of the cage per day with plenty of scratches and interaction. He is flighted and if you leave the room he will come with you 100% of the time. He is very afraid of being alone.
The last few days the contact calling when we walk out of the room and dont allow him to come has gotten out of control and we don't know what to do. We had his cage in our bedroom where we spend most of the time and in the morning when my wife gets up he was letting out 2-3 calls and settling back in while I got another hour or two of sleep. Now when either of us leaves his eye sight he starts flock calling and absolutely wont stop for extended periods. This morning he let out a loud contact call about every second for 1 hour and 40 minutes after my wife went to work. I am trying so hard not to go to his cage when he does this because I don't want to encourage the behavior but it's completely disruptive after and hour straight of loud screaming. Initially I was trying to always wait until he calmed down to go to him so as not to encourage him to call out every time he thinks of us. At this point I feel like I must be doing something wrong.
