Last night I was in a store that just sells handfed tame birds supposedly. As I was walking around, I came to a Amazon on a perch. When I stopped in front of him, he slowly spread and opened his wings. I felt this bird was sending me a message. Was he trying to be aggressive or friendly?

Usually in amazons, spreading wings means: I am a big BAD Bird! Get away or I will eat you!!

The Amazon could be just as well saying, I want to come to you as to say get away. A single action of an Amazon is 'most of the time' not enough to define a precise meaning. The good news is that with a little effort on our part, we can very quickly learn to read our Amazons.
