When do baby sun conures start perching?

I was just thinking about the baby that the breeder tried to sell me, who was so unbalanced and couldn't stand up straight.

Linius started perching as soon as I got him (4 months) but I he was still slopy with form and when walking on the perches he would fall...alot (Made me feel guilty for buying him a tall cage)lol. He must have been able to perch before that too though since he seemed like he mastered his old cage at his parent's house.

Boo baby suns start to perch at around 5 or 6 weeks. They fledge by about 7 or 8 weeks. And are independant at 12 weeks. That said it depends on the baby, some learn quicker than others.

I have read your big long rant & i wouldn't buy a bird from that breeder. Good things come to those that wait.

Haha aww!! My cage is kind of tall too.. It's not tall and skinny though. I'm thinking about tying a big rectangular piece of fabric to each corner to serve as some sort of net, so that if my baby falls he won't hit the ground. But it would also catch all his poop so maybe not a good idea .

Thanks! I wasn't planning on going back for the baby or anything, I just needed some more research on baby sun conures before I reported her to the SPCA. If they're supposed to be able to perch by 6 weeks, then there was definitely something wrong. But the breeder still had him in a clear plastic box (with bedding and stuff because she was handfeeding him) so do you think it could be that he just never learned to perch? I spoke to a lady who bought a bird from the same breeder in the past, and she said she had no problems with her and the baby was very healthy.

I know this is an extremely old post, but if you see this is what you said still apply? I have an unweaned baby that’s around 6 weeks now and she’s learning to perch but should I move her to a very small cage with a branch for the night or should I still keep her in her ‘box’
