A&E vs Prevue cages

Thank you for mentioning the Kings brand cages. I checked out their site and came across this beauty! It's almost like a best of both worlds cage between the dome top and the play top. I like that the top opens up into a play-top style area. It's also only slightly more money than the A&E and if it's truly built better, it's a no brainer to buy this cage.

One quick question regarding this cage. If the picture it indeed of correct scaling, the African Grey in that picture looks tiny in that cage. I'm of the belief that you buy the biggest enclosure you can afford (I keep reptiles as well as fish). However, do I need to worry about the Grey being scared because the cage is TOO big?

I'll be honest, I'm *not* a fan of open top cages. I worry that they could cause more harm than good, if the perch comes loose or if the bird tries to open the cage up from the inside.

For a young african grey, especially a clipped bird, it's probably best to go with a tiny cage, or adapt a larger cage to have less spacing in it... i.e. a raised shelf inside of it while the grey is still young.

For an adult grey, that's a lot of space! And there aren't cages out in the wild! So if you have a well adjusted grey that doesn't freak out over changes or large places, then it would be a great cage for one!

And... you're welcome, I guess! LOL

I haven't heard many, if any, complaints about Kings Cages, and they are supposed to last a life time! So I'm eager to see how the Kings compares to A&E and HQ! And YML... lol

I have one older cage like that and keep the top fastened shut with zip ties because mine can lift the flaps from the inside. I worry about them getting their head caught. Also, like Monica said, if the perch between the open flaps isn't exactly right, it can become dislodged and fall, taking a clipped bird with it.
