hey guys. i made a thread before that my quaker doesnt like toys to much. but he has gotten better:) still likes mostly soft wood and paper. but better. my worry is that with not much toy playing and only such soft things that his beak will get over grown. i dont think it is now. and if it is it is only slightly and not enough for much worry. but i would like to know how long their beak should normally be. and then one that is overgrown to a point where you should get is seen my a vet. some pics would be nice. thanks as always!

IF you can post a picture in here I can tell you if that's normal or not. Get a concrete perch as they will file them down on it.

okay, ill get a pic or two the best i can tomorow. i have a concrete perch. it is in front of his water dish so he definatly stands on it. it helps his nails a LITLLE bit. but he doesnt shew it or anything for his beak....

Parrots beak grind. This is in part a content/happy parrot, and also to keep their beak in shape.

Any amount of abnormal overgrowth is not a good sign. Overgrown beaks are most often caused by poor health (linked to a poor diet most of the time) or a damaged beak. Mites may also cause an overgrown beak.

Here's a couple images of quakers with overgrown beaks

haha. so cute. i know you cant use those. just thought i would share :)

sorry monica, didnt see your post. you must have posted right before me. cooper's is obviosly nothing close to those pics. as you can see. i just wanted to make sure it wasnt SLIGHTLY overgrown. i would NEVER let is get that bad.

he is on a mostly pellet diet. half and half roudybush to zupreem and weaning onto the roudybush more. there are some seeds mixed in with the pellets. he gets fruit and veggies everyday. along with some unsalted prezles, bread and pasta and some other treats. he hasnt damaged his beak at all. though. last week, the tip of the top part was peeling. but it pretty much stopped.

The images are blurry, but he looks fine! What a cutie!

i know they are blurry. thats a combonation of me using my phone for pics, and him nonstop moving. i am getting my moms old camera soon i think, so future pics will be better:D thanks, he is cute ain't he? haha. he doesn the funniest things, like trying to eat my phone...lol :D thanks guys. talk to ya later!

His beak looks fine but like I've said before, a concrete perch would do you some good!

That looks like normal growth to me too. Ralph's beak sometimes gets as long as that, but he keeps it in shape with his cement perch. Maybe if you moved Cooper's cement perch somewhere else in his cage, he'd use it as a beak-trimmer.

I can try to swap it somewhere else. I honestly don't know if he would use it more, but its worth a try. haha. As long as his beak is fine im happy :) thnaks again!
