A sharp eye!

..I took Amy outside to walk in the grass. She was a foot away,and she tilted her head sideways to look in the sky. I looked up too,and soaring wayyyyyy up there,was a VERY large HAWK!
She walked right back to me and climbed in my lap.
"Daddy....protect me!"

Isn't their eyesight amazing? Such tiny eyes compared with ours, with incredible acuity and ability to see colors far more vibrantly than us!

That is my fear at home. We have several Hawks flying so I have been remiss at taking any of my fids out.

We live in a young Red Tail Hank training area - high speed turns at the Southeast corner of our home and than North to the Kill Zone. Outside time is unheard of here!

Are you sure that Amy is looking for protection 'or' If I Move Closer To The Big Guy, Mr. Hawk will look for another target. OK, well that would be protection as well.

Happy to hear about Amy, was thinking you had gone over to the dark (Tiel) side.

Scary!

I have a little cage that I use for a carrier. I put him in there a few times lately to go out on the front porch to look around and hear the wild birds. He kept looking up at a particular direction so I took a look and sure enough, there was a hawk overhead. It's amazing that even birds who never lived in the wild can be so good at spotting danger!

I've seen an increase in Hawks where we live south of Houston so we don't push it. I know we have at least one resident hawk sitting on our power lines so we don't push it. We have a lot of new home development and I count the Hawks I see.

I have lived here for a long time,and never did I see a hawk. Last fall when Arleen was here,she heard a loud THUNK and went to the front door..There was a hawk IN THE BUSHES at my front window attacking a poor sparrow that was there. She yelled out Hey! LEAVE THAT SPARROW ALONE!! and the bird took off.
Days later I saw a pair of them in a big tree across the street from me..

They are good about alerting us to the dangers we may not see ourselves! I never set Kiwi down outside before letting him have a good scan of the sky above. And they KNOW what's a predator and whats not. He never alerts to crows, small birds, planes etc... but if theres a hawk about, he makes that ominous amazon "err err err" noise and we head on back inside.

ahhhhhhh scary. reminds me of a very big scare i had while Cleo and i were off for a walk in her harness. So she was flying on the end of the aviator flight line and up above us there was a huge eucalyptus tree. As she prepared to land suddenly a hawk flashed down and tried to catch her . Luckily it missed and cleo landed safely. The hawk flew off and i bundled cleo up and headed home. I had never thought about hawks in our area as i live in an urban area and had never seen a hawk here before. Needles to say i am being very careful from now on.

Btw since then i have not seen another hawk either.

Hawks that are targeting small birds (Sparrows and the like) are more likely a yearling. The adult Hawks have long moved on to small manuals and larger birds. Knowledge grained by observation at 'Hawk Turn.'

what a clever girl you have! If we are on the balcony and a hawk called . Snowy boy will let us know even if he is in the house in his cage .
