So, this question randomly popped into my head the other day and I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts on it are:

If the offspring of birds are called “chicks” and birds are (modern day) dinosaurs, then would it be accurate to call the offspring of the group of dinosaurs birds evolved from chicks also? For example, velociraptor chicks or trex chicks?

Let us debate!

Hmmmmm...

Since they hatch from eggs, I'm going to guess hatchlings, then baby dinosaurs.

I guess chicks would be fine it you are referring to flying dinosaurs as hatchlings.

But, I see it as, we don't refer to alligator, turtle, lizard, snakes and the like, hatchlings as chicks.

Definitely makes me grin....I’m going with chicks. “Look at the adorable velociraptor chicks” :)

I too, will now refer to them as “chicks”. T-Rex chicks just sound so cute! Like little prehistoric parrots (which they were!).

Sometimes my mother just BLOWS MY MIND!!! She just said that a baby dinosaur should be called a DINETTE!

Cute. Dinette:09: Should be used to refer to non theropods IMO.

Sounds logical to me! (Though the internet tells me that dinosaur babies go by the very descriptive yet distinctly boring “hatchling”

I can clearly see a reasoning behind the use of "hatchling(s)" when there is more than one. But with a single baby, "chick" just seems more appropriate. And, since we are talking babies here, cute comes to mine, which is an allowable term regardless of the species... :D

Are ALL baby birdies called chicks? Arent baby Eagles called Eaglettes? (Maybe Im wrong about that?)

Point of personal privilege....(if you've seen that video you will lol)

Birds are in fact dinosaurs.....both modern and old.

Babies should be addressed as lords, and ladies.....

As they ruled the earth before and will do again....they are already figuring out our technology.....it's been their plan from the start.

It's just because the English language is so screwy  Why does one "park in a driveway" and then "drive on a parkway"? or "sit in a waiting room" or "wait in a sitting room"? Ok...i'll stop now. ;)

In my head "chicks" derives from "chickens" and anything not resembling a chicken, should not be called a chick. I would therefore not call a dinosaur baby a chick. But then again, I wouldn't call a baby parrot a chick either :) It's a parling :D:D (taken from the terms as gosling, duckling etc)

They weren't birds yet back then so I'm gonna have to go with the official name which I read is hatchlings. :)

Well, I genuinely dont believe in evolutionary theory, so I'd say hatchling or honestly I just call them bird babies.
