Welcome. Part of the problem in life is we don't know everything in advance. It sounds like you did a good job educating yourself, and got blindsided by something you didn't know was a thing. That gives you an advantage going forward. Don't be afraid to get another bird - in fact, consider adopting one from a rescue. Many people buy birds without knowing the first thing about them, and then when they realize the parrot wants to do parrot things (scream, chew, bite, poop, etc.) off it goes, sometimes with significant health or emotional problems. These birds need loving homes.
There are some very good book that will help you prepare for things. It's good to keep some on hand as references. I like "Parrots for Dummies" and "The Second Hand Parrot" very well. I keep them on hand and re-read them when I have some down time, and I always learn something new.
