Put a down deposit on this baby Eclectus that is 13 weeks old and still weaning... The breeder said he is down to 1 feeding per day, what exactly is that suppose to mean? I can't wait to bring him home!

A picture of me holding him.

Exciting! Too cute. Senior members are very helpful on this site. Stay tuned for their replies. Welcome to the forum.

Congratulations. I'm going to assume your breeder means he is only being fed formula once a day now, compared to much more often when he was younger. His other meals would be foods eaten from a bowl on his own. When he refuses formula completely, he will be weaned and able to sustain himself eating a typical Eclectus diet, the majority of which is fresh foods.

He appears to have a very light beak. I wonder if the camera's flash made it look so light?

Congrats, it sounds like he should be getting ready to wean within the next couple of weeks. So you need to prepare for his home coming, like getting a cage setup for him.

He's adorable! Do you have any more pictures?

Thanks everyone for the great advice, about his beak being light should it be darker at 13weeks? If so what could a lighter beak mean? Anything bad? This is my first parrot..

And as far as his cage goes I am getting him a large corner Kings Cage. It's the one in the below link.
King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More

Now any recommendations on the best kind of toys? Should they be natural wood, or is plastic fine? Or does plastic pose a choking hazard?

I purchased 5 pounds of Volkmans Eclectus Food but will only be feeding this very little, his diet will mainly consist of 80% of fresh fruit and veggies..

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Hi there BreakingNewz, and welcome to the forum. :)

Yes, I've heard of BirdsbyJoe. He was robbed after hurricane Sandy and lost quite a few birds.

GREAT cage you are getting foryour baby!! :D Do you have a name for him yet? Also, do you know what type of Eclectus he is? He is BEAUTIFUL!!! You must be SO very excited. :)

Our member "sodakat" is EXTREMELY knowledgeable with Eclectus! You can never go wrong listening to and taking her advice. :)

That is terrible that he got robbed, some people are just sick!

As far as his name goes I was thinking Skittles or maybe Hulk, but not 100% sure yet!

Thank you!

Forgot to mention he is a Solomon Island Eclectus..

I just looked up for pale beaks on Eclectus's and it says "Pale colour beaks can indicate anaemia or vitamin deficiency." Should I bring this up to the breeder?

His feathers look very, very good and he seems bright eyed and alert. But I do think you should discuss the pale beak with the breeder. I am not familiar with this beak coloring so don't want to assume anything. You could ask if the breeder has seen this in previous clutches and if the birds' beaks eventually turned yellow. After all a candy corn beak is a trademark of Eclectus males.

I suppose it could be an anomoly for this particular chick, but I would discuss it if it were my bird. If the breeder is unsure, I think you should talk to a couple long time Eclectus breeders. I'll do some asking around for you in the meantime.

Thank you so much, I appreciate the advice.. Now I am a little worried about the beak, I definitely do want the candy corn beak... If it was not to get the "trademark" color i'd be pretty upset...

the beak is not right it may be a vitamin deficiency but i would lean more to having his liver checked, sodakat you have been breeding just as long as i have (almost) and in any of your birds have you ever had one come out that light, i have seen it before, but it took a lot of tlc to bring it back and im not trying to scare you but i would bring it up with the breeder and i would also ask to get a vet check, it mat just be a trait in his birds but after 15 years it does not look right to me.

For comparison I'm attaching some pictures of Jasper. In the first picture he's still with the breeder. :) Also, Jasper is a Red Sided Eclectus, but the beak color should be the same for a SI.
