Yellow Sided Conure (Sonny)
Hello,

I got my 9 week old Yellow Sided Conure yesterday. He has been fed a seed diet until now but i want to switch him to Pellets. Im planning on mixing the Pellets in with Sonny's seed and slowly reducing the amount of seed he's having until he just has Pellets (with a little seed once or twice a week) and daily fruit and veg.
My question is, what Pellets are best to try him on, and where is the best place to get them from? Local Pet shops and Animal feed shops don't seem to stock Conure Pellets.

He's settled in really well so far and whistles back to us ( we do 2 whistles and he does 2, we do 3 and he does 3....) and will also sit on our finger and take fruit if we are really patient.

Thank you,
Charlie

congrats an welcome :) pics please

do the switch as you said you would by reducing seed, what you might find is that all the pellets get thrown out or ignored lol just carry on, nut will only eat her pellets when there is nothing else on offer

look at harrisons, nuts on adult fine and she'll have about a desert spoon a day of them on top of her fresh and the odd lafebers nutri berries

i don't know what pellet brands are available to you in your area (i'm in aus), but a lot of people will say to go for the organic ones.

make sure you weigh him in the morning before he eats so you can make sure he's keeping a steady weight and still eating properly while you're doing this.

And i wouldn't mix seeds and pellets in the same bowl, seed husks will just cover them up and the pellets are less likely to be eaten even once he finishes the seeds, and more likely to be thrown out by you when you empty the husks out. if you want them both available how about two bowls next to each other?

also (obviously different for each individual) there's crumbles, and larger pellets all available, so a preference of size might affect what he eats, and some birds love it if you put a bit of hot water in with them and mush them up so they can eat them warm (though they don't last as long in the cage this way)... so just try different presentations too :)

my baby did not go for the pellets at all when there was seed available. and the first day when there was no seed he didn't eat anything except his veggies, in the hopes i would cave and give him seed later, or the next day... as long as you're weighing him and he is eating something, don't get too worried if he is a bit stubborn. :)
