Are blue fronts natural born kissers?

So, I noticed in another thread several blue front owners mentioning their BFA's all give kisses. Kiwi is also a kisser. We didn't teach him, he started reaching out for us and once we figured out he wasn't looking to bite our face, he's been a kiss monster since. He prefers kisses to treats during training or as a reward for being good. He goes so far as to sometimes when he's super happy to (gently) pinched your lip and lick you (and you don't want to pull away when he does that or he will chomp you lol). It's like a birdie french kiss you never asked for:52:

So, are the blue fronts just natural kisser birds? Does this stem from some kind of wild behavior of their species? Or do they just really like when us humans treat them well?

I know Brady (YNA) is a big kisser, Jolly (SI) loves to give kisses and make the noise.. loudly I might add. Jillie (SI) only kisses me and with her it is a gamble, she kisses hard and sometimes goes in for the kiss but gives my nose a tweek instead!

I will say... it wasn't a hard thing to teach Mopar. It does seem more "natural"...

We have a routine now. Sometimes he will start, and say "kisses" I'll lean over, he gives a kiss. Then I say "thank you" Other times I'll ask him for "kisses" and he comes over. He also will say "thank you".

Not the one I had. He was a biter. Bit the new owner (who loves blue fronts) within in 30 seconds and all he did was move him from the top of the carrier to his new cage. Made me feel good to know that it wasn't me.

Kiwi was a "biter" too when we got him. I think he had bit me (blood drawn bites) a couple times before the first week was out. It took a lot of trust building and a couple years to turn him into a "trustworthy" kisser (and let him anywhere near my face voluntarily, as he's bit me in the face 3 times since I've had him, twice severely). Previously abused/mistreated/never trained right amazons definitely can have an attitude problem and/or anger issues for any new owner to deal with. Guessing your blue front hadn't come from a very nice home when you got him?

You've come so far with Kiwi over the years. It's such a shining example, I love to hear it!! Look at all the work and persistence it took, over the span of years, but now look! Exemplary!!

Can Hunter & Sam chime in, pretty please?

They are BOTH exceptional smoochers. Sam, in particular, makes the kissing sounds as soon as I tell him he's getting a kiss I swear, if that boy had lips, he'd be puckering up constantly.

And Hunter, too. She stretches her neck wayyyy out to get a kiss. So sweet!

But no tongue allowed. LOL.

I agree with Julie! April, you've come such a long way with (your ) sweet Kiwi boy. Your dedication and love shine through loud and clear!!

I'm not sure......My BFA's both are experts. Hey you can learn how to kiss from these two....seriously. I mean you get the tongue in ear, the grooming of the hair.....the light nibbles of the face....the cooing....and then you hold them up to a mirror and they realize they are a bird...
They are like " Spit spit spit....ohhhh god I'm a bird and I kissed you?? Spit spit....Hecks a matter with me???"
LOL.....just kidding they are very lovable birds those BFA's... then they all are. Well not so much my grey....Go to give him a kiss and he backs away looking at you as if " hell you doing? I'm a bird...you feeling alright there bub...?"

Well, Kiki is a kisser too, and she does that every morning when I take her out like 5 times, and also when she is all hyped up.

She has been kissing me naturally ever since I brought her home when she was a lil baby. I think it's natural.. Don't you?

Ummm... I fostered a BFA that you didn't dare get your lips near.

I also had one that was the ultimate velcro bird, and my most bonded bird EVER... I could do anything to that bird without even the slightest fear of any sort of biting behaviors.

It's an individual bird thing.

Rachel had a foster that would go to her and one other person, and be sweet as pie, but would attack other people with the intent to maim. She could kiss him on the beak, or do anything else she wanted.

Same bird gave her Mom a lip piercing!

Hmmm...never thought about it being a natural thing with blue fronts. I just thought that somewhere along the way (not with Sassy's previous owner though) she must have learned it. When I get her out of her cage, we kiss:10:, and then I put her on top of her cage to play. I just recently have allowed her on my shoulder (depending on her mood of course) and when she is there, she kisses me repeatedly...like 20 to 30 times in a row! The first 2 months I had her though, NO WAY !!!:11: Cisco is a constant kisser too! Peanut...well I don't know. I'm not getting my lips close enough to that beak to find out! She is so sensitive and sweet, but still.... I do kiss her on the top of her head though.
