B&G feet colour!

This may sound strange, but i recently discovered blue and gold macaws having either dark feet, or light feet!

Fargo has dark black/grey feet, and thought it was normal, until a friend said he noticed Fargos feet were dark, and his macaws feet were a light pinky kind of colour!

I didnt think anything of it, until i saw another video today and the macaws feet were a pinky/light colour as well!!

Does anyone know why they either have dark or light feet?
I guess it could be like some macaws get really light eyes, where as others stay darker? :20:

And what colour are your macaws feet?

Niko's are dark. And as soon as I can find Niko's baby pictures, I'll let you know what colour they were when he was a wee small one.

I honestly don't know why some have lighter feet. Pigmentation perhaps???

I always presumed b+g's would have dark feet because their beaks are dark and that seems to be a trend with birds that their feet and beaks match! Amazons and 'toos are a good example.

How odd.

(Just double checked Merlin had matching feet+beak, he does!)

I always persumed it was a age thing
Young macaws have dark feet and older ones have light feet.
Mando is 15 months and stil has dark feet and dark eyes

Hmmm, was just having a look at the baby pictures from the breeder, up to the age of about 30 days, they still had the light feet... but the next age i have is at 50 days, and the feet are dark ! :20:

My friends macaw is roughly the same age as Fargo, i think just a little older and she has the light feet !

and Fargos eyes are still pretty dark, at 16 months!

I found THIS picture of Niko on Photobucket. It was his first day home, so he's 4 months old in the picture...and his feet are dark.

They are still the same colour today.

But yes Fargos are that colour too! Maybe a tiny bit darker

So obviously when their feet get darker, they stay dark? Or maybe when they are really old they get light? haha :20:

Tried to find a photo, realised i never take photos of his feet, this is the best one i have!


Dont want to post pictures of the other macaws i have seen with the lighter feet so hopefully they chime in

This is a picture of Mando when hè was About 6 weeks and hè has dark feet then, now they are even darker

This isnt Fargo, but at about 30 days...


and then 50 days..


so the feet got dark pretty quickly!

So you can get Java trees in Holland? it seems everywhere in the world can get them except for Australia! :31:

Trust me I've considered it! I'm hoping if we ever try to immigrate to NZ/Auz that we can get him through after potentially getting him neutered, if it becomes a safer procedure (as obviously their ability to reproduce and become problematic in the wild is a big reason why they decline almost every species) ,with a thorough health check, he's chipped already and having him in quarantine for a period of time.

Aka. Practically beg the nice people on boarder patrol to let us through.

Alas, probably never going to immigrate whilst we have Trouble.

Java trees are expensieve overhere but not to hard to get one.
This one is specialy made for Mando.
They also make custom cages, orderd one for Mando hope it Will arive next month.
