Sun Conure
We got a baby sun conure recently - about 9-10 weeks old. He has been completely off hand feeding formula for about ten days now. Since then he has been eating only fruits - primarily apples, banana and papaya. We offered him pellets, seeds, vegies from time to time but he nibbles a little and then ignores them completely. He has hardly been drinking any water.

Also, when his poop looks strange - there is no white only feces and urine.

I am not sure if it's a normal with baby birds or if there is something wrong with him? Any help?

Not a good sign that your bird is hardly drinking water.

Perhaps try feeding your bird other foods early in the morning, veggies etc and leave them there for a while.

If you are worried your bird is not taking in enough food, feed your bird formula, 3 times day, say 20ml each time, at least you will then know he is getting something in that is healthy, that is full of vitamins etc.

Perhaps he us being picky, but he should begin eating other foods.

Try soft sweet mash potato, all birds love mash.

If your bird refuses to eat other foods I suggest a visit to the vet.

The apples and papaya are providing a source of hydration, but not a long term substitute for water, but they may be why he does't seem to want to drink water. Like Antoinette said, he may be being picky, so u could try some other foods that are solid but not as dry as pellets or seeds. Cooked and warm, not hot, sweet potato or carrot, oatmeal, birdy bread. Raw sprouts possibly.. Do you weigh him. If not, u can pick up a digital scale like used for weighing food at home and get morning weights ev day before he eats.

Thanks. I tried sprouts today and he ate it, not a whole lot but a good amount. So I hope he is just being picky. But I think I will take him to the vet today to be safe.

Let us know how things are going Din with your bird, it's young and being weaned and that's not an easy time for some birds.

Antoinette gave you some good advice, and so did Wanna. Keep us posted Din and let us know how your baby is doing, weaning time is not always an easy process and some birds are more difficult than others.

Let us know what the vet says! Good luck! :)

Glad to hear that he eat some sprouts, it's a good start. Praying by now he has began eating other foods as well.

Din have you managed to take your bird to the vet?
