Baby orange winged amazon

.... I have been reading the forums trying to find out how you stop her from flying every time I take her out and have not found an answer so far. Any suggestions?

If she is just learning to fly, she will be all over the place for quite a while. :) You can persistently put her back where you want her to be, but there is no guarantee she'll stay put. :)

Dear tortoisekeeper- I m sorry to hear about your dear pee wee I know you would have been very close to your companion of 21 years, I never knew raccoons could be dangerous, where I m from they aren't endemic. Ohh well done jelly bean, your first flight day yaaaay. You must be a very proud parent ;) I ve read about aviator flight harnesses they seem very highly recommended and you can purchase on amazon. I ve only been the owner of a parrot for four days but if I can help in any way please let me know. Hope you re having a lovely afternoon. Take care :)

My kiwi is a bit unstable with her landings but she only flies about for short bursts. I have not found a way to prevent her from flying about, I just let her be and close all doors and windows. Also I ve been bringing her back to our play spot each time she ventures onto a place we aren't allowed such as perching on my mum's shoes ( dont tell mum lol). I ve been offering lots of cuddles and head scratches if she stays in our play area. She's starting biting my clothes and buttons out of curiosity does this mean she ll bite fruit such as bananas or apples or papaya soon? Also I haven't yet managed to get her to come on to my hand but she climbs on me when playing. How can I get her to step up onto my hand I ve been trying by telling her come kiwi come, up kiwi, but she just squeaks and comes for head scratches lol

Once Jelly Bean started picking at toys and such she started picking at the food. I still hand feed her in the morning but she is eating more on her own each day. I just made some birdie bread for her and she tried a little of it.:greenyellow:

Hello there Tortoisekeeper :) thank you for your response. I m happy to hear jelly bean is ding well ( also I m rather fond of her name) I reckon some bird bread is in order for kiwi when shes old enough, I m looking forward to trying out some of the recipes on here :)

Good morning All.

Oh no! What happened?? Is there swelling around the eye or is it crusted shut? Did you accidentally get some formula near the eye?

Have you tried VERY GENTLY putting some warm, moist compresses over the eye to see if that helps?

Answered your PM.

Good morning jersey Wendy :) thank you for your response. She won't let me apply a damp warm cloth to her eye but I did anyway. She isn't a very happy kiwi at all, our play time was very quiet, she's very sneezy with a clear nasal discharge and her right eye is closed, it does not appear swollen or crusted, however she doesn't want me to touch the surrounding area. We ll be heading to the vet first thing in the morning, as they are all closed today. Till then what can I do to make her comfortable? She is with me and I m keeping a very close eye of her. I hope you are well. Thank of very much.

Henpecked, thank you for your message. I left a response :)

Good evening everyone,
I hope all is well with you and your birds :) Kiwi and I had our visit to the vet today, it went well, she's a healthy girl, the only concern being she needs a bath so we will have our first bath tomorrow. She keeps flying about and accidentally flew into the closed front door, she is ok, I on the other hand was very worried. She is asleep now, quite possibly dreaming about her new toys we obtained earlier.

She'll adjust, keep her best interest in mind and try to see the world though her eyes. Your doing great and things will work out fine.

One word.....PRECIOUS!!!! :)

Thank you very much for the kind responses. Kiwi is well and surprising me with her personality with each passing day, I find her games and baby sounds quite endearing. She's a healthy baby with perhaps a mild cold, but she has since recovered and is content to play indoors and practice her flying, glean head scratches and play with her toys. She has been holding her toys with her feet now and seems curious about everything around her. I love her to bits. When is it safe to start giving her small bits of fresh fruit like peeled pears or apples even grapes? She isn't fond of puréed bananas, mangoes or papaya. Thank you very much for reading. Have a pleasant evening. Take care :)

You can start offering fresh fruits and veggies RIGHT now. :) The more you introduce it to her, the better the chances she won't be a picky eater. :)

Awww we can have breakfast together sharing our food :) do I still need to purée the fruits?

Nope, you can just offer him chunks of fruit, without pureeing it. :) You'll soon figure out which shapes and sizes he'll like best.
