Well Barney is back home now, according to the vet he does indeed have cataracts in both eyes and can only see shadows, and she also said that his tag was an import tag and he was probably an adult when he was imported and according to the numbers on it his tag is 45 years old not 30 like we were told. so he is a bit older than that. now fred on the other hand has no tag at all and may very well be alot younger.

How is their general health overall? Did the vet visit go well?

said that he is overweight other than that he looks good for his age she said other than his blindness, she was surprised to see how old his tag said he was.

Barney was the DYH? did he come though California ? Band started with a C or O ? He might not have come as an adult but a fresh weaned bird from Mexico. I think the best DYHs came though Cali and were bigger/robust birds. Always wanted some, many were sold cheap at auction. sorry about the cataracts, pretty common unfortunately. Do you think he's been exposed to a lot of florescent light ? High fat diet?

Barney is the Bluefront and yes she said he came through California in 1967, she did say about the diet he needs to slim down a little that he probably had been eating high in fat dont really know about the lighting he was in before.

Its good to hear the Barney is OK apart from his eyesight, you'll have to get Fred a little seeing-eye-parrot vest to wear.
Good luck with the diet, since being told that Casper is overweight by the vet he has lost a whole 1 gram in three weeks. My maths is rubbish but I think its going to take about five years to get him down to recommended weight at this rate.

lol yeah she told me it may not be a fast thing for them to lose weight and just get them on a good diet and it will help.

I would agree with that. I was told that our grey was overweight as well and to not be surprised if once he started to lose weight, he might start flying rather than a controlled flutter to the ground. Well... its only been a couple weeks since our vet visit and only about 3 weeks since he's been on Harrison's for his main food source and this last weekend he flew/glided from one of the of house to the other which is about 30+ feet down a big hallway. Previously i had never seen him go more than about 12 feet. I cant say its the diet just yet, but maybe!
