My rehomed ekkie comes home today and I couldn't be more excited. I bought a number of new toys for him, including one I'm starting to question.

It's a mop string toy I got in a bid to give something other than his feathers to preen (he's a plucker). But I'm starting to think back to concerns expressed on this forum about toys they could potentially get feet stuck in. I've attached a photo. Is this OK? I've bought a stand where toys can hang, but he can't climb to get along side it, would that be a better place for this than the cage?

Also, he has a rope toy he uses to masturbate (he's also entering puberty). Should I get rid of this toy?

Thanks a bunch!

Just bumping up :)

Chris, I personally think that toy is fine unless the bird's nails are overgrown. With stringy toys you want to make sure to monitor the wear, and cut any loose frayed pieces. Still, do what you feel is comfortable. My boys have many toys and swings right outside the cage and from the ceiling by the cages. There are some toys that are only used with supervision.

Fabulous news, thanks!
