Hello!

I am looking to upgrade cage for my Green Cheeked Conure, who is just over a year old. Her name is Nyx and she is a feisty little girl.

I am interested in getting her a larger cage because I feel her medium size one is a bit too small. The only issue is the bar spacing is 1". I feel like she wouldn't be able to escape or get through - as her body is too big- but I was wondering if I should risk it? Any advice would be helpful. I really want to get her a larger cage! I've also attached a photo so you can see her size

Her current bar spacing is 5/8's I believe, and she isnt able to get her head out at all. No cage escape issues.

The cage i'm interested in is this one:

Hello there! Welcome to the forums!

That's a great cage but I agree with Flboy, the bar spacing is too large. 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch bar spacing would be ideal for a GCC. You might get by with 3/4 inch but personally I wouldn't chance it.

One inch is way too large for a GCC. 1/2 or 5/8 is ideal. Although I usually say no flight cages for parrots because of the small bars, Green Cheeks are small enough that they won't damage or bend the cage. Look into flight cages, as they have the smaller bar spacing along with being spacious.

I second the idea of a flight cage! I have one for my Quaker and it works great for him and is very spacious. I had a GCC years ago and I'd consider the Quaker to be much more destructive cage wise but our second hand flight cage has held up nicely.

1 inch is definitely to big. I would say 1/2 would be best! Good luck!

Leah your cage looks great for Yoshi! :) I love your set up.

Just a little note to others: some parrots even as small as Yoshi can bend the bars and break welds if they are individuals inclined to bite cage bars (as some parrots are). Flight cages are really made for small "flying" birds such as finches, canaries, and budgies. With small parrots it really depends on the individual, but I'd think with a GCC you'd be fine.

Here's Yoshi's flight cage. :)
Thats a beautiful cage! Where did you get it? Is there anything on amazon similar?
Im pretty much looking for a flight/play cage but haven't been able to find on with less than 1" spacing.

Leah, Yoshi`s cage looks awesome! I have that cage for my CBC and he loves it. I bought mine from Amazon.ca, but it may be available on Amazon.com.

Leah's cage style is a "classic" flight cage style, and is made by several if not many different manufacturers. It should be available most anywhere you can buy cages online. I went through birdcages4less.com and got my budgies a double of this version with a removable divider. Their customer service was pretty good. Here is the classic style similar to what Leah has. Tiki Treehouse Flight Cage - Flight Cages and Double Flight Cages at Bird Cages 4 Less.

Again, I don't usually recommend these for anything but the smallest of parrots as far as beak size goes.

Hello!
Thank you for the suggestions.

She has a thinner type cage bar at the moment and it has never been an issue as she doesn't typically try to escape or chew the bars. She prefers her toys or me to bite lol :)

Thanks so much for the compliments on Yoshi's cage! I try so hard to make it fun for him!

I got it secondhand but I've seen very similar cages for sale pretty much everywhere that sells cages online so it will be easy to find!
The only bad thing about mine is that it has two small doors on the sides that don't lock. So I had to put clips on them to make sure Yoshi didn't try to pop them open. The newer ones might have better features. I've been contemplating buying Yoshi a new cage but it seems like a waste since I would probably just buy another one very similar!
