Galah - Nigel
Good Morning, when I first got Nigel he use to love being misted by a spray bottle. I'm not sure if it's because of the cold weather we have been having here in Australia but he hates it and will run away now. Any suggestions on how to bathe my Galah as his feathers are beginning to look dirty?

Hello Beckyymayy,
Have you tried taking him in the shower? Or try sitting a shallow bowl of water on the floor, get down there with him and place him near/or in it. Can't have a dirty bird :)
Good luck :)

I've tried the shower before but I think the loud noises freaks him out a little. But I'm going to place a water bowl in his cage now and I'll keep you updated thank you for your help ! :)

Alice likes bring sprayed when she has new feathers coming through, otherwise she's pretty ambivalent. Sometimes she'll run away then when I stop spraying she'll come back out with a 'why did you stop?' look - so perhaps it's a bit like climbing into a swimming pool, that moment when you're waist deep and you know the next step is going to be really cold.

According to my vet galahs don't need regular baths in the way tropical parrots do, so I don't worry about it too much, just give her a quick misting a couple of times a week and see how she reacts. She probably gets a full drenching a couple of times a month.

Thank you for that :) i tried putting a bowl of water on the bottom of his cage today and he just drunk out of it. I guess I'll just keep trying with the spray bottle until he decides he wants to shower.
That makes sense that galahs don't need regular baths like the tropical parrots, you learn something new each day. Thanks again
