Best Exotic Pet Bird Insurance? Anyone?

I just got a DYH baby Amazon, after my precious baby Dino the Lori died 2 months ago.

Now, I want to have a good Bird vet and i'm looking into Bird Insurance.
Any recommendation?

Find your Avian Vet 'FIRST!'

Best insurance in the World is worthless if your Vet doesn't work with them!

Once you have found and visit your new Avian Vet, ask them who if any one they are working with. Many times your Vet will switch you over to the office manager or head of accounting to address your questions. In addition, many Vets have payment plans to help their clients. This will allow you to set-up something in advance, if needed.

We have had lots of big Avian Vet bills and never had purchased insurance. We have pre-budgeted our yearly costs and have always worked it that way. I see no reason to add to my overall Vet costs, since most insurance products are based on a numbers game, i.e. they need to make more than they payout.

Costs are all over the place. Since your Vet's office has to work with them, they will be your best source!

Please read the First Thread in the Amazon Forum: Amazon Body Language. Although your baby will not be using the vast majority of what is covered, it will open you up to the need to Learn Amazon! Also, Amazons Love to be read too! So, take the time to read it aloud to your baby. It will help in your baby to learn your voice and you to learn Amazon.

Nationwide Insurance is the only company that offers pet insurance for birds and other exotics. Cost runs about $12 a month per bird, and you can use any certified avian vet. If I remember correctly, you have to have owned the bird for six months before you can obtain coverage.

It is worthwhile reading the small print and knowing what is covered and what isn't. My friend's bird plucked and needed Vet treatment to find out why, her insurance didn't cover it. It was a large bill too 400-500 GBP.

Yeah, i found the same results. Nationwide would cover my amazon and lori for both $240 / year. But I read lots of review from people complaining they didn't pay.

Nationwide (Formerly VPI) has paid everything that's been covered. Haven't had any difficulties so far.

If you go onto their website, you will see the various policies that are offered. Keep in mind that you must pay your vet first, have the claim submitted, and then wait 3-4 weeks for reimbursement.
