Awe! I?m sorrry you and your bird are going through this. I?d trust you instincts and find another vet. I always look at the bad reviews to see how the bad and see how it could effect me. You and vet clearly do not mesh. I was in a similar situation and it really sucks but keep looking. Maybe go back to the er doc?

My IRN was prescribe metacam for her ankle. All my birds have heated perches and it really Leo’s my IRN and My older OWA. Don’t know what’s going on with your bird but I do know the warmth of the perches helped their feet.

In all honesty Im about to throw in towel. The ER was actually a nightmare for everyone I got there bright N early and in a nutshell they took Gemma from me and I waited outside the ER about 12 hours, I saw everyone come and go with their pets, I kept calling from the outside as I was getting tired of waiting, watching people leave that came later then me, and I got 1 honest girl that told me that since my bird was "stable they were taking care of other pets 1st" Gemma was in a stroke. they left her in her box for hours when I could have been with her. I was very upset to say the least, all they actually did was an X ray. Ive come to hate this business, vet #2 told me to seek a boarded exotic specialist, this place I just went to in NYC was the 1st not to lie about having that kind of specialist! the other 2 I called said they did, I made an appointment and looked at their websites, they lied about having boarded specialists at all. I just want to make her comfortable if its her time at this point, it doesnt seem im going to get much help unless Im going to throw down $$$$ and still it come with little at all guarantee to help.

I’m sorry your having to go through this! I sent you a message with contact info of Dr.Orosz who is a well known Avian vet. I did a telemedicine appointment with Anne and sent over all Anne’s records to her. I also sent info to a rescue who I consulted with when I really didn’t know what to do. I hope my experience helps you and maybe someone can point you in the right direction. Maybe call your local parrot rescue to see who they take their birds too.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I assume you now have Gemma at home, any signs of "stroke?" Very sorry you are confronted with potentially existential illness. Extraordinarily difficult for you to assess given contradictory diagnoses from so-called professionals.

Board certified avian vets far and few between but there are several in NYC region. Check this search engine selecting "ABVP-Avian Practice" from "Degrees" window near top. Found 8 within 50 mile radius of NYC. I realize you may not be on quest to find yet another vet, but discover of fraudulent credentials may help sort relevant from nonsensical information. https://www.aav.org/search/custom.asp?id=1803

Yes Gemmas here at home, I dont even keep her in the cage at night, shes always with me lately. they wanted me to leave her at the Vets overnight on Saturday, but I said no of course.

Im hearing about a board cert Avian doc that may do phone consults. I will probably try her. Thank you for everything so far Scott, I mean it!

You are very welcome! Concept of phone consult with board certified avian vet has appeal. More likely to yield unfiltered information provided you gather relevant labs and X-Rays for review. Sort of like contracting with independent financial advisor for fee vs signing with full service brokerage.

I hope Gemma improves, please keep us updated!!
