Big changes

We are trying to seriously reorganize the ….kitchen dinette area.
This is where the Cockatiels live and Bella likes spending most of here time.

I haven’t been happy with the cage arrangements since Luck passed away. It’s been three male birds (Baby, Popeye, and Cheeky) all in separate cages + the girls sharing a cage. 4 cages for 5 Cockatiels.
Cheeky and Popeye (father and son) use to share a cage but they had a sudden falling out and now can’t stand each other.

First I got rid of the light fixture that had been in the house for 30 years and was falling apart. Of course it wasn’t simple. Had to be done very slowly to keep the natives from panicking.

After that I bought a new cage with the same footprint but not a tall one, one I could stack on top of the girls cage.

Now I have Popeye and Baby sharing the new cage and so far they are getting along.

But Cheeky……. He’s the only one not happy.
He…. I think there’s something wrong with him. Not psyical but mental.

He wants out of his cage (Ive tried him in two different cages). He gets frantic. If I let him out he goes straight to Baby/ Popeyes cage and fights with Popeye.
Cheeky is also the only Tiel that is not hand friendly, he will bit the ever loving Out of you.

It’s night now and quiet. I’m glad Baby and Popeye are getting along. I know Baby must have missed his friend Lucky. I do feel bad that Baby now has a much smaller cage (as far as height goes) but it might be better for him at his age.

Still a lot more to do reorganizing the dinette area. Should be able to remove one cage but I have to take it in easy stages to keep them from panicking.

Maybe mood swings because of age, hormone changes related to aging? People, dogs, etc go through it. Why not birds? No control over that. Send pics. I want to rearrange for my comfort, not the feathered mistress comfort. I come up with blanks. My thought pattern runs...no Nameliss won't like that..no not for me and so on.

Yes making any kind of changes causes disruption but sometimes you got no choice.

I got no pictures yet but things are still unfinished.
I need to remove one cage and move the new stacked cage into its place.
Got to take it a little bit at a time.

Bella makes things more difficult.
She wants to be in there all the time, climbing all over the Tiels cages.
The girls don’t care, they just keep there distance
Baby doesn’t care, he also keeps his distance.
But Cheeky and Popeye want to “take on” Bella despite the size difference.
I can keep Bella out of the kitchen area but she gets upset.
So that adds a layer of difficulty. I give her stuff to do, boxes to destroy and stuff but in the end she climbs on the Tiels cages .
On top of all that our refrigerator is dying and needs to be replaced.
All the birds will panic when strangers come in to move that big beast and bring a brand new one.
This rearranging and consolidation of cages is ment to make it easier to get that done.

I am taking Luna to the veterinary today but I will try to post a picture of the new 2X2 cages. It’s very difficult cuz they are backlit by a sliding glass door.

Failure.
Popeye started fighting with Baby this morning.

I let Cheeky out and he flew to the side of popeye/Baby’s cage trying to fight with Popeye.
It took several tries before I could get Cheeky back in his cage. After that Popeye was so…..hyped up he started attacking poor Baby for no reason.

Those two birds (Cheeky and Popeye) are like those Chinese fighting fish and can’t be close to each other.
They both seem unstable. Lucky and Babe (both male) have never been so high strung.

Sounds like you have a living kaleidoscope of birds materials and planning. A wrong color or move and splat, a ruin of the beautiful picture or plans. I used to think of owing more than I bird. But I'm so grateful finances and circumstances interfered. I currently have a sick CAG with avian vet, x-ray confirmation and waiting for blood results. She's getting tube feeding and antibiotics. But I can't turn my... oh no she's at it again alarm off! I just found her at the chest freezer. Probably trying to figure out how to break in for the nuts. Bella owns your kitchen. I saw that video on the attack of the little camera. What will her reaction be to a gigantic fridge?
