So, we have finally decided on adding a blue crowned conure to our home and are in the process of purchasing a cage. Our quaker parrot has a 18 x 18 x 60 cage with a playtop and I was thinking of getting a 20 x 20 x 60 for the blue crown without a playtop and letting them take turns on the playtop. We have a play stand also, so it isn't like they would have to "share" at the same time. Do you think this would work or should I just get another cage with a play top? Thanks for any advice!

My Fids do not like somebody else on their play stand, and they DO NOT like someone else on their cage ! My advice would be to get a cage with a play top. Ruby gets very territorial if Buddy flies over and plays on Ruby's play top even though he has his own. I think he does it just to rile Ruby up.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if that could be the case. I will take your advice and get a new cage with the play top. I was told that they can be a bit territorial on top of there cage and get a separate stand. Have you had this problem? We haven't--but we only have one quaker. I really don't want to get another stand since we already have a table top on...it will seem like birdville in our house :) thanks

I agree about not sharing a playtop on a bird's cage.
My other thought is that a 20x20 may not really be large enough for a blue crown conure. Interested in hearing what others think on cage size.

We have the most amazing cages that we purchased through PetCo. My duskies each have their own 30x30x60 cages that we bought for $213.00, plus free shipping! It has a play top, plus 5 dishes, two of which are on the playtop. You just can't beat the price for this size cage.

Here's a pic of Gizmo's cage. Yes, that's Gizmo at the bottom. The cage came with seed trays, but we couldn't stand them and left them off. I'm in the process of swapping out his playtop toys, which is why you don't see any up there at the moment.

Nice cage and a great price. I am actually considering a cage with the seed guards. It isn't so much the price of the cage that concerns me as it is the size need of the cage. The bird will be out a lot so I don't think a huge cage is a necessity, but I do want to get the appropriate sized cage for the space that I have and the bird. If I need to get a cage that is bigger than 24 x 24 x 60 or 20 x 20 x 60 then I should probably consider a smaller Jenday--which was my other option.

Nice cage. I purchased our Quaker's cage on Overstocks.com and I love it. I like the Prevue cages with the seed guards so I am going to chose from one of those--but thanks for the information!

My Blue Crown is in a King's cage similar to this: King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More
i don't see the exact cage....it is the one i bought my sun conure in 2001, and it is still like brand new, so i am still using it. I paid somewhere around $450 back then, but i am impressed with the quality for the price with the King's cages.
I thought this may be too small for Gilbert because he is a tiny bit bigger than the Sun, but he is just fine in it and bops all over, playing. :)

24 x 24 is the smalles I would want to see a Blue Crown in, even if s/he is out lot.

That large Petco cage in a previous link 32x33 would be very nice if you have space for it.
