Good luck with your cage search! Blue is one rambunctious macaw! They aren’t all bar biters/benders. Mine has zero interest in biting bars and ironically I have 2 heavy duty SS cages for him. His larger cage from Animal Environments will probably last 300 more years. I won’t be around to see its demise. That is one solid (and heavy) cage. 30+ years old and as good as new.

Even when you get your new cage you should keep searching for quality secondhand SS cages. Deals can be had! There was a used monster Animal Environments SS Luxor cage (double macaw) for sale near me for a while. It was a great deal, but I had no need (or space) for such a gigantic cage. I contact my local macaw owner friends whenever I see a great deal. Sometimes it works out.

I wish I could have afforded a $5000+ stainless steel cage that is big enough for a macaw. I’ve been looking for months trying to find one that’s reasonable as Blue is an aggressive chewer. He met with his behaviorist sometimes the Mac daddy’s are this way. All you can do is perfect a diet, and provide as much enrichment as possible in hopes that his cage deconstruction behaviors minimize.

I was given some good suggestions, and recommendations. I bought him a swing to hopefully burn some energy. His behaviorist seemed very well aware of how some macaws can be. She wasn’t surprised by what I was telling her by any means. He bit his first vet, and made her bleed pretty bad. I try to think the best but she’s been sick since, or has had to reschedule every appointment I’ve tried to make. I can’t say I’d enjoy being bit by large parrots repeatedly. A cockatoo got ahold of her pretty good the first time I met her. I’m sure it gets challenging doing that job. Blue is probably going to go through vets quite often. He likes to use vets as pin cushions if they try to handle him. He’s going to be destructive I just have to be ahead of it. He tolerates me. He may just be a one person parrot like my Ekkie.
