Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
I "have" a rabbit living in my yard (not a pet, a wild rabbit) who has recently developed a VERY cloudy left eye (like a cataract). I have pictures, but posting is a pain, so I am asking..His other eye looks fine!

1) should I contact a rescue ? *they are closed so I prob will tomorrow either way*

2) How would I know if it was viral or parasitic?

3. This guy lets me get SUPER close and I think it is because he is old and knows me, but I am not certain and definitely worried that his eye may get him killed around the wrong predator. He is still eating and acting normally (mostly) other than allowing me to get close, but again, I think he has been around for at least 2 years and knows me (compared to the others).

I am just worried he won't see predators....I also do put seed on the walk lately (due to temperatures and in an attempt to reduce predatory nest attacks among certain omnivorous birds)...I hope I didn't do this somehow by him scavenging seeds....I know he does..

If you in fact have an older Rabbit it is possible that it has developed a cataract.

More likely an injury from a run in with a cat or another Rabbit. Rabbit on Rabbit attacks are a reality and injuries are common.

I hope they can help. Poor baby

Kudos for caring about the bunny, my guess is a rescue with vet access would be best contact. My first instinct would be for protective custody at a facility for duration of life, but they can advise you far better.

I called a wildlife rescue and haven't heard back yet. I haven't seen him today, but I hope it isn't an infection. He lets me get super close, but it's possible that it's because he is sick I suppose...or because he is having trouble with depth perception...His other eye looks fine though

This time of year, wildlife rescues are flooded with babies and are always short of staff. So, do not become upset if it takes awhile before you hear from them.

They called me back and said it was likely 1 of 3 things--- genetics, old age or an injury from something like a puncture. They said that, due to the outline around the eye, it doesn't look like a rupture or parasite.
